Project: PATHÊMES
Brazilian artist MARCELO GOMES’ first monograph, Pathêmes, assembles a body of work that spans almost a decade. Edited and sequenced in close collaboration with the artist and designed by ANY OTHER NAME, the book is unbound, allowing for a curiously rich variety of paper stocks and materials paired with ambitious print processes and finishes that echo and augment the painterly, dreamlike spirit of Marcelo’s work.
Services: Book Design, Digital
“Marcelo collected his work and invented a form. This book feels like a secret. It also feels like… fabric swatches, the weather, TV light or topographical maps, candy wrappers. I love it. I’ve never held a book before that feels so cared for, so strange and uncomplicated.”
— Durga Chew-Bose, Writer & Essayist
The Pathêmes website presents a series of randomised diptychs, playfully interpreting the book's unbound pages. Serving as a digital rendition of the print processes, select images can be manipulated and distorted by the user.
A series of posters to coincide with the book launch, kindly hosted by ÉTUDES, Paris. Designed as a set, two posters are layered as one to mirror the book's materiality.
